Let The Music Play is the authorized story of The Doobie Brothers from their beginnings in California in 1970 to worldwide success, selling over 40 million albums during their long career.  The film features interviews with band members Patrick SimmonsTom JohnstonMichael McDonaldJohn McFee ,Tiran PorterJeff “Skunk” Baxter, their manager Bruce Cohn and long term producer Ted Templeman, revealing the full story of the band’s highs and lows through four decades of musical evolution.

The Doobie Brothers breakthrough came with “Listen To The Music” in 1972, and they went on to experience both sustained success and line-up changes in the mid-seventies.  The band made a change of musical direction and enjoyed further success following the arrival of Michael McDonald in 1976. Worn out by non-stop touring and internal disagreements, the band broke up after a “farewell” concert in 1982. There were sporadic reunions in the eighties before the band reformed permanently in the early nineties and have continued touring and recording ever since.

As well as the film itself, Let The Music Play – The Story Of The Doobie Brothers features bonus live performances of: “Rainy Day Crossroad Blues,” “Without You,” “Listen To The Music,” “Black Water,” “Takin’ It To The Streets,” “Rockin’ Down The Highway,” “Neal’s Fandango,” “Long Train Runnin’,” and “China Grove”.

Let The Music Play – The Story Of The Doobie Brothers is more than just a rockumentary, exposing their incredible career and achievements. Boasting an additional nine live tracks, with a total running time of well over two hours, this is the complete package for any fan of this amazing band.

  5. I can’t want to get this new Doobie Brothers DVD on blue ray . I’m your #1 fan and I was on the front row at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado this summer on July 17th and that show should also be on DVD, it was amazing, and here it is months later and I’m bumping into people all over Denver that went to the show and a number of people have said ” I go to concerts all of the time and The Doobie Brothers concert at Red Rocks was one of the very best concerts Iv’e ever been to”. It was so cool to see Tommy and Patrick look at one another on stage and laugh together seeing the great crowd response at the greatest venue on the earth. DOOBIE BROTHERHOOD my friends Red Rocks, Colorado.. welcomes you back!!

  6. What can you say? 40 years and still kicking it. This is like the cherry on a sundae. Sweet and memorable, taking us back to the roots of the most eclectic and versatile rock and roll band since the beginning of mankind. May the band and its members continue to enjoy good health, ample wealth, creative inspiration and love of their fans and the general public. There is no group that this listener has seen that gives so much back to their fans, that makes this experience more than about the music and that conveys the feelings of wholesomeness, inclusiveness and morality. God bless The Doobie Brothers and God Bless America.

  7. Been a long time coming thanks guys looking forward to checking it out.

  8. For the last forty years you’ve been in my life. Through my ups & downs, good times & bad, listening to your music has got me through years. When at times I thought all was lost or ready to just give up, I knew listening to you guys would change my outlook on the situation. Thanks so much guy’s. You’ve been with me though thick-N-thin since the Santa Cruz/San Jose Days. God Bless you guy’s!

  9. Doobies, I am 64 years old, and I have followed you guys and have seen you play 3 times, once Alpine Valley! When You coming back. I was a D-J in Kansas City in 1970, and an US. Air Force in 1972, Germany, as a part-time D-J. I use to play all your music on the radio, My favorite still is Listen to the Music and will play that song at my funeral. I hope you guys revisit Wisconsin again sometime next year. To me you were better than Chicago, the Stones, and the Beatles. Listen!, forever, Thanks so much for your music! And a special thanks for T.J. Love you guys! J.J.

  10. Been with you guys from the start. ‘Let the Music Play’ … this has to be the prelude for the Hall of Fame. Looking fwd to watching it.

  11. Let’s get a DVD out of the “Crazy Tour” can’t wait to see thenew songs performed Live!
Speaking of Live how about a retrospect with concert footage from the 70′s like in the Nobody video only complete performances.

  12. I sure hope for the 2013 tour that you venture back to playing some of the best early stuff like Stampede ” Fandango”, The Captain And Me “Ukiah”, and especially one of your best rockers ” Road Angel” that was originally recorded to’s more than just about the beat, it’s all about the well written songs, the amazing lead vocals, the harmony and especially the rock and roll guitars..The DOOBIE BROTHERS the house band in heaven. Thanks Tommy and Pat love you guys!

  13. Cant wait to see the DVD. Even thou I lived a small part of it seeing the whole story should be interesting. Out of all my experiances on the road the Doobie Brothers were by far the best. I agree with all the others, probably the greatest band of the 70′s and still making great music.

  14. We both grew up listening to the Doobies in the 70s and now are lucky to know Pat and Chris Simmons as friends and biodiesel supporters. They are two of the nicest people on Maui … and the Doobies still rock!

  15. Good to see in BR format…..hope it is more than a padded out, remastered version of the ’89 “Listen to the Music” VHS

  16. When in Panama, Central america

  17. Will move on the 31st of October. Again, like so many other times, I will have to decide whether to keep all those vinylrecords of (a.o.) Chicago, Little Feat and……the Doobies. I have literally dragged the box with ALL Doobrecords from one place to another in the knowlegde i will NEVER play them again. We have iTunes and CD’s remember? But it is soooo difficult to throw them away…..after 40 (!) years ;-) )

Anyway, my reason to post: Can’t wait for the Blueray LTMP to be released!

  18. The Doobie Brothers have such a great story to tell. They deserve to have it captured in a definitive documentary. The Doobies are an American success story and they have touched so many people in a positive way. Keep rockin’ mi amigos! (I have already pre-ordered two blu-ray copies).

  19. My buddy’s mom at the time had all the Doobie albulms, 1978 I put on “Stampede” … that was it , the guitars, the percussion, the bass riffs, the harmonies and singing “Neal’s Fandango” in one breath by Pat , these guys just ROCK. How their sound changed but never lost it’s quality. It’s simple the DOOBIES rock always did, always will. Thankyou for being my go to band when I need some good toones

  20. The Doobies have always been one of my all-time favorites…I have all their hits from 1972~~~~~~~40 years of good memories during all the changes in my life…Luv -u- Doobies……..

  21. I always liked their music. My husband took me to see them at Universal a few months back. Had to be the best concert I have ever been to. They are amazing in concert. I watch the youtube clips of them frequently. I was a sort of fan of theirs, now I totally love them. Heard they arent in the hall of fame. ..what’s up with that? Hope to see them again.

  22. Damn. You guys are still hot. Saw you at Avila Beach Blues Fest, Riverside Theater, and Wi State Fair… maybe elsewhere over the years… Please come to Milwaukee again! Looking forward to getting the new DVD. Rockin’ down the highway is cool as hell. Yippee!

  23. Cant wait for this to be released in Australia been a big fan since day 1 Doobies rock!!!!!!!!

  24. Looking forward to some new insights on the band. I hope the live performance footage is vintage stuff that’s not on YouTube already. I have loved the band for years. For the first time in 10 years i missed you on tour this summer. That won’t happen again! Keep rockin brothers.

  25. The Doobies have been a huge part of my life since i first saw them in Australia in 1976. Have been lucky to have seen them 4 times and a group of us in West Australia plan a trip to USA next year to hopefully see them again. One of the greats and will look forward to the DVD

  26. Been a “Doobie” fan forever. I grew up “listening to the music” and have never quit. I once won all their albums (yes..albums) from a local radio station on a “Doobie Brothers weekend” back in the late 70′s. I still have them and they don’t have a scratch on them. The best is “What were once vices are now habits” every song rocks. Love that “Eyes of Silver”….so you guys keep “Rockin down the highway”.

  27. Worked back stage at one of your shows in the 70′s and was standing near you guys and have been a fan ever since. Raised my kids on your songs especially Black Water trying to get everybody to sing their part in tune is a family staple. Greatest Band Ever! Live in Texas but fire up the Harley and take in your shows every chance I get. Keep Rockin Down the Highway guys

  28. I am a great Doobie Brothers fan from the early days and really enjoy my new dvd. Great time great production. A must for any fan.

  29. I’m very happy to know every member of the groop is so fine (^∇^) I went to the first concert in
Tokyo in 1976。 I love your sound ! I’d like to say ‘THANK YOU(^∇^)” to DEAR PATRICK SIMMONS to remain the group as it is ! from KOBE JAPAN
